Privacy policy
This page explains what information we collect when you play on Restless, why we need it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are
Restless is a Minecraft server network run by BeyerBytes. BeyerBytes is the only company that collects and looks after players' information on Restless. Restless is not an official Minecraft service, and it is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
You can reach us at contact@restlessmc.net. Parents and guardians are always welcome to write to us.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the games and keep players safe.
- We never ask for your real name, email, age, school or address to play.
- We don't show ads, and we never sell your data.
- This website has no tracking and no cookies.
- You, or your parent or guardian, can see your data or ask us to delete it.
What we collect when you play
- Your username and IDs
- Your Minecraft username and UUID (a player ID). Bedrock players: your Xbox gamertag and Xbox ID.
- Your IP address
- Your device's internet address, which every online game needs to connect you. Our game servers don't write IP addresses to their logs. To make bans work, we keep a record of which accounts used which IP address for up to 90 days, and only the owner can see it.
- Chat and messages
- What you type in public chat, private messages (
/msg), commands, and the words on signs and in books. - Safety records
- Reports made by you or about you, messages our chat filter blocked, and any warnings, mutes, kicks or bans.
- Playing the games
- Your progress, builds, items and Crowns, how long you play, which games you play, and the server address you joined with. Your answers to optional in-game questions, like "How did you find us?" (you pick a button; there's no typing). If you join the
/waitlist, we note it on your player ID. We never ask for an email address. - Purchases
- When our store opens, Tebex sells and takes payment for our items. We see the player name, what was bought, the price and the date. We never see card details.
- Linked accounts
- Your Discord or Root account ID and name, only if you choose to link it (
/linkfor Discord,/rootlinkfor Root). - Emails you send us
- Your email address and what you write, so we can answer you.
How we use it
- To run the games: connect you, save your progress and show your rank.
- To keep players safe: moderate chat, handle reports and enforce our rules.
- To keep the network working and secure: stop cheating, bot attacks and abuse, and fix problems.
- To understand how Restless is used as a whole, like which games are popular and how players found us, so we can make it better.
- To answer your emails and, once the store opens, to deliver purchases.
We don't use your information for anything else. We never use it for ads, never build a profile about you to target you, and never use it to contact you.
Children and parents
Restless welcomes players of all ages, including children under 13. In the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects children's information online. Here is how we look after it:
- We only collect the information listed above. We don't ask children for their name, email, age, school, address or photos.
- We use player IDs and IP addresses only to run Restless: to save games, keep the servers working and secure, stop cheating and abuse, enforce bans, and understand how the network is used. We never use them for ads, to build a profile about a child, or to contact a child.
- Our staff never message a player first and never ask for a password.
- If we ever want to collect more from children, like an email address, we will ask a parent first.
What parents can do. You can see the information we have about your child, ask us to delete it, and tell us to stop collecting it. Because we can't run the game without a player ID, stopping collection means we block the account from Restless. Email contact@restlessmc.net with your child's username. Before we share or delete anything, we make sure you are the parent or guardian, for example by asking your child to type a code we give you in the game. We answer within 30 days.
Children sign in with a Microsoft account, and parents control online play in Microsoft's family settings. Our guide for parents shows how.
Chat and voice
Players can talk in public chat and send private messages. Chat could let someone share personal information, so we work to stop that:
- Our rules ban sharing personal information and asking others for theirs.
- A chat filter blocks messages with personal information, like phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses, before anyone sees them. It checks private messages, signs and books too.
- Staff moderate chat, and players can type
/reportto tell staff about a problem.
Voice chat is optional and only works on Java Edition with a mod called Simple Voice Chat. It sends a player's voice live to nearby players through our server. We don't record or store voice, and staff can't listen in. If you don't want your child to use voice chat, don't install the mod.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the reason we collected it, then delete it. This is our data retention policy:
- Server logs, chat, private messages, commands and signs
- 30 days. We need them to look into reports, safety problems and bugs.
- Messages the chat filter blocked
- 30 days. Staff check them to spot players who might be in danger or causing harm.
- Which accounts used which IP address
- 90 days. This stops banned players from coming straight back.
- Reports
- 1 year. This lets staff see if the same problem keeps happening.
- Warnings, mutes, kicks and bans
- 1 year after they end. A permanent ban is kept until it is lifted, or until 2 years after the banned account was last used.
- Your account and game data
- While you play, then deleted 2 years after you last played. This covers your IDs, ranks, progress, Crowns, purchases, survey answers and linked accounts. We need it to save your game. Your builds may stay in the world for others to enjoy, but they are no longer linked to you.
- Emails
- Emails from children are deleted once we have answered them. Other emails: up to 2 years.
- Open safety cases
- If a case needs more time, for example because we passed it to the police, we keep only what that case needs until it is closed.
- Backups
- Deleted information can stay in our backups for up to 5 weeks, until the backup is replaced.
Copies in our staff's private Discord channels are deleted on the same schedule. You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time.
Who else handles data
We don't sell or rent anyone's information. These companies handle some of it so we can run Restless:
- Microsoft and Mojang, for signing in to the game. Bedrock players sign in with Xbox.
- GeyserMC, the free project that lets Bedrock and Java players play together. For Bedrock players, its service receives your Xbox ID and skin so Java players can see your skin.
- Xbox, if you add our account PlayRestless as a friend so you can join from a console. Its friend list then shows your gamertag. It accepts friend requests, shows Restless in your Friends tab and sends an invite to join it, but never chat messages. It removes friends who haven't played for 15 days.
- Discord. Our staff's private channels receive player reports, messages our chat filter blocked, and punishment notices. Your own Discord account is only involved if you link it.
- Root, only if you link your account.
- Tebex, which sells and takes payment for our store items, once the store opens. Its own privacy policy covers the checkout.
- Cloudflare, which runs this website and our online maps.
- Our internet and hosting providers, which carry connection data between you and our servers.
We also share information if the law requires it, or with the police or child-safety organizations, like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, when a child may be in danger.
Sites we link to, like Discord, Root, Tebex and the console helper apps in our join guide, have their own privacy policies.
Keeping it safe
- Our game servers and database sit on a private network. Players reach them only through our proxy.
- Only the owner can see IP addresses. Staff see only what they need to moderate.
- Staff must use two-step sign-in, and staff accounts are never shared.
If a data breach affects you, we'll tell you or your parent as the law requires.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we have about you and give you a copy;
- correct something that's wrong;
- delete your data;
- stop using your data for something.
You can also unlink Discord or Root at any time. Email contact@restlessmc.net with your username. A parent or guardian can ask for a child. We answer within 30 days, and we never treat you differently for asking.
Players outside the US
Restless is run from the United States, and our servers are there, so your information is stored in the US.
If you live in the UK or the European Union, data protection law (the GDPR) gives you the rights above. We use your information because we need it to run the games you choose to play, because keeping players safe and stopping abuse is in everyone's legitimate interest, and to meet our legal duties. Linking Discord or Root is your choice, and you can undo it. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
This website
- No cookies, no analytics and no ads.
- It loads nothing from other companies.
- Cloudflare delivers its pages, so Cloudflare processes your IP address to send them to you and to protect the site.
Because we don't track you, there is nothing to turn off. We treat every visit the same, whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal. No other company collects information about you across websites through our site.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For big changes, we'll also post a notice on this website and in our Discord before they start. If a change affects children's information in a way the law says needs a parent's permission, we'll ask parents first.
